Imagine you are preparing a project with your friend.

You have found some interesting material for the presentation and you want to read this text to your friend. You have 1.5 minutes to read the text silently, then Be ready to read it out loud. You will have not more than 1.5 minutes to read it.

Friendship can be defined as a relationship betw’een two or more people characterized by mutual affection and understanding, sympathy, honesty and altruism. In childhood, friendships are often based on sharing of toys, and enjoyment received from performing activities together.

Conventional wisdom suggests that good friendships enhance an individual’s sense of happiness and overall well-being. This is also complemented by the World Happiness Database study which found that people with close friendships and bonds are happier.

Plenty of children naturally seek out a special friend and childhood pals are a constant motif in children’s literature with such examples as Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn or The Wind in the Willows’ Ratty and Mole. So, it may come as a surprise that parents of children at a private day school in south-west London have been told it is not good for their offspring to have best friends. Instead, they should be encouraged to have lots of good friends to avoid overly possessive relationships and upsetting fall-outs.
